Make Up/Beauty Reviews

There is no season in which I don’t like to play with make up, but this winter I’ve become a fan of some really cool (and inexpensive) beauty products.

1. Nivea Cream: It is thick and hydrating. It moisturizes away the cracks and ashiness from my hands, heels, knees and elbows. I even have my daughters, who are 6 and 5, slather it on their face on really windy days. I usually eschew buying any drugstore lotion over $5 but this $8 jar is a gem. It is so thick that it hard takes quite awhile to get through the whole thing. The 99-cent mini tin is slim enough to fit in a clutch or a back pocket!

2. Carmex (Medicated) Moisturizing Lip Balm: Now this is some creamy, soothing goodness. I use it on my dry cuticles and on my lips when I don’t have time to put on lip stick. My oldest daughter’s lips chap and peel something awful once the temp dips below 55 degrees, and Carmex has kept her lips in very good, non-peeling shape.

3. Jordana’s EasyShine Glossy Lip Color is the bee’s knees. It moisturizes like a balm. Most of the available hues deliver color as rich as lipstick. It shines like a lip gloss. Finally, they’re only $1.99!!! I own three already--Sugar Plum, Brown Sugar, and Sugar Cookie (reads clear on my coloring).

4. I’ve been obsessed with the new long lasting and vibrant eye shadows being released this month by Maybelline (Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Eyeshadow) and L’Oreal (Infalliable Eye Shadow), but I’m hard pressed to spend $7-$9 on a unproved product. So, I shelled out $6 for two smell plastic jars of the wonderfully pigmented E.L.F Studio Pigment Eyeshadow. Using the small brush and E.L.F.’s $1 Eye shadow primer (in Golden), I was able to have a stunning gold-colored eye that took five hours to crease. The gold (Golden Goddess) is bright without being tacky. Tomorrow I’m going to try out Tropical Teal (which reads much lighter on the computer screen than in real life).
